Intimate Couple Home Photoshoot — Bruno & Ricardo
When I arrived at their home and they opened the door, I was surprised to realize that I already knew one of them! It turns out that Bruno was the one I had been in contact with to schedule our photo session, but it was Ricardo who caught me off guard when he greeted me in their living room. As it turned out, he was a former classmate from my AP Surdos de Língua Gestual Portuguesa course. And you know what's even more amazing? I had never put two and two together.
After we had a good laugh about the situation, we began to take photos and chat a bit about the love between these two. As a couple, they have been married for over 9 years and not only do they make a stunning pair, but they complement each other so well that it was a constant joy to hear them talk about their relationship and what they have faced as a queer couple. They got married as soon as the law allowed same-sex couples to do so (law no. 9/2010), and we even joked about celebrating their 10 years of love with more photography.
Did you know that Portugal is considered one of the most LGBTQ-friendly countries in the world? Having made significant progress in recent years in terms of LGBTQ rights and equality. In 2010, Portugal became the eighth country in Europe and the sixth in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. Since then, it has consistently ranked high on LGBTQ rights indices, including the ILGA-Europe Rainbow Map, which rates European countries based on their LGBTQ rights laws and policies.
It was a pleasure to photograph this beautiful and loving couple, who prove that love knows no boundaries. It is always an honor to capture the unique and beautiful love stories of all couples, no matter their gender or sexual orientation.
